Meaning: Om Great Goddess Kali, the One and only one, who resides in the Ocean of Life and in the Cremation Grounds that dissolve the world. Only a few people use this mantra due to its purgative nature. This mantra is simple and transforms the devotee to pure consciousness. This mantra will protect you from all the evil forces. She is considered as the primordial mass from which all life arose. She is the mother of the world and the treasure-house of compassion. However, in most of the interpretations, she is portrayed as ferocious and evil. Kali Ma is simultaneously portrayed as the giver and destructor of life. She is considered as a berserk form of Durga/ Parvati, who is the consort of Lord Shiva. ![]() To aid her son in his endeavor to rid the three worlds of the multiplying demon, Raktabija, Parvati entered the cosmic battlefield as the dreaded goddess Kali – dark as death, gaunt with sunken eyes, gaping mouth, with long disheveled hair covering her naked body. The name Kali means She, who is Beyond Time. Through the grace of Kundalini Shakti and our own self-effort, we gradually let go of the ideas, concepts, and behaviors that prevent us from experiencing the Truth: that we and the supreme Shakti are one and the same.Kali Ma is known as the preserve of Earth, but due to her destructive powers she is also known as “Dark Mother”. Kali and Durga, the names of the Goddess invoked in this namasankirtana, represent the liberating and purifying aspects of Kundalini Shakti. Each of these forms represents an aspect of Kundalini Shakti, the cosmic power that creates, sustains, and dissolves the universe and that lies dormant within us until it is awakened by the grace of Shri Guru. Many different forms of the Goddess are worshipped throughout India. This raga conveys the rasas, or qualities, of love and lightheartedness.
